TRANS TASMAN

HISTORY

Held bi-annually, the Trans-Tasman Challenge is a co-operative effort of the Australian Quarter Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association of New Zealand, which is designed to foster leadership, sportsmanship and camaraderie between the Australian and New Zealand quarter horse competitors.

Traditionally only Youth Teams participated, but more recently the Amateurs from both countries now also take part in the Challenge.

Trans-Tasman is not just a challenge between the two countries, but an opportunity to gain new skills, make new friends, have some fun and represent your Country in the sport that you love.

Team members are required to compete in specific classes at the Challenge, which include, but are not limited to, Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Trail, Western Riding, Reining, Hunter Under Saddle and Hunt Seat Equitation.

The 2 countries take turns in hosting this great event.

If you are interested in becoming part of either the Amateur or Youth Trans-Tasman Australian Team in 2024, keep an eye out for the Notification announcing the next Trans-Tasman and apply.
