7th September 2007
AQHA CANCELS TRANS TASMAN YOUTH CHALLENGE
The Australian Quarter Horse Association’s (AQHA) Trans Tasman Youth Challenge, scheduled for 3rd – 7th October 2007 has been cancelled, effective today, due to the Equine Influenza (EI) outbreak and its’ affect on the Australian Equine industry.
AQHA has assessed the situation and considers the risk and exposure in proceeding with this event as being unacceptably high.
Further, AQHA’s concerns regarding the possibility of visiting New Zealand youth transporting what has turned out to be a horrendous problem in the Australian equine industry back to New Zealand, whilst remote, is not impossible.
AQHA would like to thank all participants for their efforts in helping to facilitate what would have been a great event and at this point in time we will be considering alternative dates for early 2008 once the EI situation is somewhat clearer.

If your horse develops signs that suggest it may have Equine Influenza, ring the Department of Primary Industry Hotline on: 1800 675 888 or go to: www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/agriculture/livestock/horse/influenza for more information on EI.
