Rockhampton Quarter Horse Sale
The Rockhampton Quarter Horse Sale has been held in November for 37 years. However, after the last sale in 2006, some breeders, buyers and vendors had discussions with Elders with regard to moving the sale to March. Some of the reasons for the change are: the sale would be out of the breeding season, broodmares pregnancy status would be clear, stallions would have completed breeding season, 2 year old horses will be 4 months older, reducing the need to push youngsters too early, and the general welfare of the horses (weather etc).
Elders report that a survey was sent to 420 sale vendors with an unbelievable 38% responding. The results of the survey were 89% in favour of the March date, 4% against the move and 7% neutral. This represents a massive show of support for Elders initiative in moving the sale to March, which will see the next sale conducted on the 17th and 18th March 2008, with no sale in 2007. The horse industry is moving forward and Elders have moved to stay at the forefront in support of the Quarter Horse breed. With a widespread advertising campaign planned, Elders are confident of strong buyer support and feel the sale will grow and prosper in its new time slot.
