How to apply for Foundation Stock Recording
(Updated February 2008)
To apply for Foundation Stock Recording you must apply to AQHA with the following:
• Copies of registration papers from your horses registering breed society (Australian
Stock Horse Society, Arabian Horse Society of Australia or Australian Stud Book).
• The horses DNA type or a request for a DNA kit. DNA kits cost $110 through AQHA. All
Foundation Stock must have a DNA type on file with the Association before they will be
accepted.
• OLWS, HERDA and HYPP test results. These kits can be ordered and paid for through AQHA.
Payment must be received up front for DNA, OLWS and HERDA test kits. We will also send you a HYPP testing kit upon request, however this is billed direct to you by the testing lab upon completion of the analysis.
• Four colour photographs of the horse (one from each side, font and back) if registered
with a society not recognised by AQHA, for example Warmblood Association.
• An AQHA Application for Registration completed with the horses details and markings.
We do not accept Paints, Appaloosas, Pintos, Standard Breds, Pony breeds and Draught breeds into the Studbook Register, Appendix Register or Foundation Recording system.
Foundation Sires (FS) must now go through the Initial Breeding Fee (IBF) inspection process to be eligible for Foundation Recording. You can download an IBF Inspection Form or we can send one to you upon request.
For a Foundation Stallion to be accepted as a sire of progeny eligible for entry into the Appendix Register, and have a Breeding Return book issued by the Association, he must have his Foundation Recording endorsed as having completed the IBF process prior to the first service taking place.
The owner must ensure that prior to the first service taking place, that the AQHA office has received;
i) The appropriate Initial Breeding Fee of $550.
ii) The stallion’s application for Foundation Sire Recording.
iii) Confirmation that the stallion’s DNA type is on file with the Association
(Regulation 13.10.)
iv) Where required, the results of any scientific tests for genetic disorder/s are on file with
the Association (Regulation 13.11).
v) A fully completed IBF Examination Certificate (available from the AQHA office), which
contains a signed statement by a registered veterinarian that certifies that the details
contained thereon are true and correct, and that the stallion does not have:
• an umbilical hernia
• parrot mouth (overshot or undershot as defined as no occlusal contact
between the upper and lower central incisors)
• is not cryptorchid or monorchid and that it has two (2) visible testicles
descended into the scrotum, and;
• meets or exceeds the minimum height requirement of 142 cm (14hh).
Please note: Failure to comply with the above will result in a substantial penalty fee being applied.
Progeny of Foundation Stock that express excessive white markings will need to be tested for Overo Lethal White Syndrome (OLWS) as per the Associations Rules & Regulations.
