Guide for Importing Semen - UPDATED OCTOBER 2011
GUIDELINES FOR STALLIONS BASED OVERSEAS ENROLLING FOR SHIPMENT OF IMPORTED SEMEN
The stallion owner must be a financial member of AQHA.
The stallion is required to be registered with AQHA for Import Semen. Please complete a generic application for registration and mark the application as Imported Horse. This form is available on the AQHA website www.aqha.com.au the cost for this application is $230.
Please supply a copy of the horses International Registration Certificate with the application for registration.
The horse will be required to have DNA on file, if the horse has been tested outside Australia, then a copy of the horses genetic markers is required. If the horse has not had its DNA completed a DNA kit will be provided.
Based on the horses pedigree the horse may require further genetic testing including HYPP, HERDA, OLWS.
HYPP only horses with N/N (negative) results will be accepted for Registration. Horses with lineage to IMPRESSIVE AmQHA #0767248 will be required to have this test completed prior to registration. This HYPP kit costs $60 and can be purchased from AQHA. Please contact the office for the testing kit.
If the horse has been tested overseas by a recognised testing facility by AQHA then the results will be accepted and verified.
HERDA horses with N/N (negative) or N/Hr (carrier) results will be accepted for Registration. Horses with lineage to POCO BUENO AmQHA #0003044/MISS TAYLOR AmQHA #0002636 will be required to have this test completed prior to registration. The HERDA kit costs $55 and can be purchased from AQHA. Please contact the office for the testing kit.
If the horse has been tested overseas by a recognised testing facility by AQHA then the results will be accepted and verified.
OLWS only horses with a negative or carrier result will be accepted for Registration. Only horse with excessive white markings according to AQHA Rules and Regulations will be required to have the test completed. This OLWS kit costs $90 and can be purchased from AQHA. Please contact the office for testing kit.
The horse will be required to be inspected by the veterinarian and the vet will be required to complete the Initial Breeding Fee Examination Certificate and forward this to the AQHA. This form is available on the AQHA website www.aqha.com.au
The Initial Breeding Fee cost is $550.
Once all paperwork is completed and all payments received, the stallion will be issued a registration number and issued with a Stallion Return Book. Do not use any semen or serve any mares until the process is completed or a fine will apply.
The stallion owner must at all times adhere to the rules of both the American Quarter Horse Association (AmQHA) and the Australian Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) in relation to Artificial Insemination and transported cooled semen.
