Registry Services – The impact of Equine Influenza (EI)
As part of AQHA’s commitment to assist in the control and eventual eradication of Equine Influenza (EI) in Australia, we are required to adhere to DPI NSW regulations. In meeting these regulations we have implemented a system whereby members with horses housed in green and/or amber zones of NSW and QLD or any other State not affected by EI can now obtain some genetic testing kits for their horses.
Members will first need to complete a declaration form, confirming that their horses requiring DNA or OLWS testing are not housed within a red or purple zone of NSW and/or QLD. Click here to download the declaration form (PDF - 92 KB).
Once the declaration form is received by AQHA and DPI have confirmed the information and payment and/or relevant paperwork has been received, testing kit/s will be issued to the member in either designated green or amber zones of Australia.
AQHA is currently in discussions with DPI NSW for the commencement of the issue of HYPP and HERDA kits to members with horses housed in designated green or amber zones of NSW and QLD and/or other States not affected by EI. It is our hope that we can start issuing these kits very shortly.
AQHA fully understands that members may have horses housed in designated purple and red zones throughout QLD and NSW that are having difficulty in finalising the registration and/or IBF process for their horses.
In assessing on an individual basis applications that are affected as a result of the EI outbreak, AQHA is allowing dispensation to members on application in writing for various registry processes, for example IBF for breeding sires, if your circumstances are considered a valid and genuine case of EI hardship.
Further, AQHA at Board level, will be discussing in the very near future proposed extensions of lodgement dates for a number of our processes to assist the membership in this very difficult time. Any outcomes in regard to this will be widely publicised as soon as the information is available.
If you wish to apply for dispensation for IBF, please write to AQHA and address to:
