Membership Types
Important:
Membership must be in the name which you wish to use as the owner of any horse which you may purchase or breed.
FULL |
FULL MEMBERSHIP entitles one person to membership within the
Association. This membership allows voting rights in all Board elections
and referendums. |
CONSTITUENT |
CONSTITUENT MEMBERSHIP is made up of more than one person and
must have a nominee for that membership. The NOMINEE is the person
who has the authority to SIGN PAPERWORK and vote on behalf of
the membership.
a) There can only be one vote per Constituent Membership and only one
nominee of the membership can vote or hold an Amateur Owner Permit.
There can, however, be more than one signatory for a Constituent
Membership. For the National Championships one person only in a
Constituent Membership is eligible to compete.
b) A Constituent Membership can be named by using either, the initials of
the people involved, a property name or perhaps a stud name.

NOTE: If
an Amateur or Select Amateur Endorsement is required on this
membership it cannot be known by a stud or company name. |
YOUTH |
YOUTH MEMBERSHIP is offered to persons 18 years of age and under
as of 1st August in the preceding year.
Youth members will be entitled to register two (2) horses only whilst they
maintain their youth membership, neither of which can be a stallion.

ASSOCIATE |
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP is designed for the person who may no
longer own Quarter Horses but who may still wish to have connections
with the industry through the newspaper and any circulars which may be
sent to members. Anyone who is part of a constituent membership but not
the nominee can also take out an Associate Membership in order that
they have showing rights at the National Championships.
An Associate Member does not have any voting privileges and cannot
register any horses. |
AFFILIATE |
AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP is for clubs or associations with fifteen (15) or
more full AQHA memberships or such number as may be determined
from time to time by the Board of Director’s. |
LIFE |
LIFE MEMBERSHIP runs for the term of 20 years and provides members
with a convenient means by which they can take care of their membership
without having to remember to pay their dues each year. Life Members
are entitled to voting rights in all Board elections and referendums. |
PROMO |
PROMO MEMBERSHIP is designed for first time quarter horse owners who never previously have been an AQHA Member. |
AMATEUR |

The definition of an Amateur is a person who owns his/her horse and is not a professional horse trainer and is over the age of 18. An Amateur must possess a current Amateur Permit as issued by the AQHA in addition to being a financial member of the AQHA. Being an Amateur gives the person an extra benefit of competing in classes provided strictly for them, as well as being able to compete in open classes.
Select Amateur is a class for Amateurs that are 50 yrs & over; to be eligible you must hold a current AQHA Select Amateur Endorsement. |
Membership of the Association is a privilege not a right, application for
which shall be made on forms and by payment of fees and according to
the outlined procedures.
Membership or application therefore may be terminated or rejected by the
Association for cause detrimental to the interest of the Association,
policies, objectives and harmonious relationship of its members, as
determined by the Association. Termination or application rejection
proceedings under this paragraph shall be conducted in accordance with
the Articles of the Association.
a) The facilities and services provided for by these Regulations shall be
available only to those members of the Association who are entitled to
vote at a General Meeting of the Association and applicants for the said
facilities shall be required to satisfy the Association they are so entitled.
b) In the case where a person is a first time owner of an Australian Quarter
Horse or is seeking to register an Australian Quarter Horse in their name,
they are entitled to an initial Promotional Membership. This membership is
not available to any person or group that has been a member of the
Association previously.
