Biographies
Greg Watson
Greg Watson lives at Kelvin near Gunnedah in northwest NSW with his wife Debbie, daughter Stephanie and son Adam. He is a Graduate of Wagga Agricultural College with distinctions in Animal Husbandry and Breeding and Beef Cattle Production.
After graduating, Greg worked as a Classifier for the Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society in Albury before moving to Sydney where he joined George Weston Food’s poultry production division. Since that time he has worked in senior farm management and poultry husbandry roles with Inghams, Cordina and Baiada Poultry companies.
Greg has been throughout, a successful breeder of stud cattle but became involved with Quarter Horses in 1983 with the purchase of the great mare Dee Dee Doc from the Ellerston stud.
Like everything else Greg’s commitment to Quarter Horses soon had him and his wife competing successfully at Futurity, State and National level. Horses from their Jarrah Stud soon acquired a repetition for being very versatile with most obtaining Superior Awards at Halter and several Performance events as well as impressive lists of major wins.
Greg served many years as a committee member of the Sydney Quarter Horse Association and the Hunter Valley Quarter Horse Association of which he was President for 3 years
In 1990 Greg became a Double A judge and has served on the AQHA Judges Panel continuously since that time.
Greg was voted to the Board of Directors in 1996 and during this time has served as Vice and Deputy President, National Show Director (1998, 1999, and 2000), Director of Judging, Youth Director and Youth World Cup Australia 2004 Co-ordinator and Director of Racing.
Greg greatest interest has been in Stud Book. He has served on that Sub committee continually as a member and Director.
Greg has also served as our International Director for the past 5 years representing Australia and the Oceania region on the Board of the American Quarter Horse Association.
